ADORE HIM
It is by grace
that we are saved
Through faith and not by works
For it is through Jesus
that we have life
To live is a blessing
To live is Christ
Come, let us, Adore Him
Come, let us, Adore Him
So we’ve been raised
with Jesus Christ
Let’s set our hearts
on things above
That we may be filled
with the fullness of God
And walk in the freedom
He’s given us
To our God, to our Father
Be the glory, forever and ever

Adore Him is the only song on The Fire that we had recorded before, having been on the live ‘My Soul Yearns’ release by Vineyard Records in 2011. I loved that recording, especially the piano that Mark Edwards played but we just felt it could do with some studio treatment. I was so happy to get my sister Jessie in to sing on it; you could take my vocal totally out of the mix and she would still carry it on it’s own. Bobby added some nice layered guitars and some of his signature strange noises. And we kept some piano in there played by bass player Jonathan Ahrens.
The chorus came out of a worship time at one of our evening ‘Burn’ services. Which is where the songs for the Beautiful and All From You albums came from. So I began to build the song up around that simple line. The first verse is taken primarily from Ephesians 2v8-9 and there’s a bit of Phillipians 1v21 in there too. The second verse starts in Collosians 3v1-2 and moves through to the bridge into Ephesians 3v20-21.
The song talks to us as the church, reminding us of what God has done, encouraging us to grab hold of the freedom God has given us with both hands and urges us to sing ‘Come, let us, adore him’. And then the bridge responds to that and moves us into that act of adoration, of giving God glory, of worshipping Him.
